About the organisation
Basic details : Viallaite is a non-profit association operating in Cameroon since April 2016.
Maternal and child health
Mission : Viallaite’s mission is to improve the health of young children and fight malnutrition by supporting and encouraging breastfeeding and good food diversification. It has been shown that a good diet of both pregnant women and children aged 0-2 will allow the child to grow up in better physical and mental health. Good nutrition is key in Cameroon where poverty is very high and health centers are not always accessible. Unfortunately, the lack of education and misbeliefs mean that women are not breastfeeding enough and are introducing unsuitable foods that endanger the health of their children. The mission of ViAllaite is to educate families to practice breastfeeding exclusively for the first 6 months and then for 2 years as part of a diversified diet (in line with WHO recommendations).
Vision : The association operates through partnerships with local health centers and other NGOs.
Thanks to its 4 locally trained counselors and 17 partner health centers, Viallaite meets more than 40,000 mothers every year during their prenatal, maternity or vaccination consultations. Training is also provided for health workers. A facebook page, allows moms and health staff to find the most important information and ask their questions (more than a thousand contacts).
Affiliation : Affiliation to Make Mothers Matter (MMM)
